When building animal fences, corners, gate hinges and points where the fence line breaks are crucial. Many users use posts that are too flimsy and do not drive them deep enough. We always install posts with a minimum diameter of 10 cm at these points, usually 12-14 cm, and they are never shorter than 220 cm. The depth depends on the ground conditions and the height of the fence. In wet ground we drive at least 1.2 m deep, while in drier ground we drive 80 cm. For high deer fences, a depth of 1.8-2 m is recommended.
To handle the forces that arise, we often build parallelograms, a construction with thick posts, a log and a stay wire on the diagonal to distribute the load. The rule of thumb is that the log should be at least twice the length of the post's height above ground. If the post is 2 m above ground, the log should be at least 4 m.
Our advice is not to skimp on the thickness and length of the corner post for long-term durable fences. Below you will find a selection of posts and logs for corners and breaking angles, as well as packages for parallelogram construction. If you have any questions, please let us know!
