Insulators

There are a variety of different insulators available on the market and sometimes it is difficult to understand what is different and why some are more expensive or cheaper than others. We will try to explain some of the differences for you.
Ring insulators for wooden poles are the most common insulator, you mount them with a screw sleeve that you put in your screwdriver, remember to lower the torque on the screwdriver and drive with caution. With maximum torque and speed, there is a high risk that you will tear the plastic off the screw if it stops.
Ring insulators are available with and without iron cores. Insulators with iron cores are designed for steel wires and withstand higher loads than those without iron cores. The quality of the plastic plays a big role in the lifespan of the insulator, how will it cope with our sub-zero climate and does it have UV protection that prevents it from becoming brittle in sunlight. The last part is the screw itself, which is available in everything from simple chromated steel with better rust protection to C4-classified stainless steel. If you use iron wire in a ring insulator with an iron core, it will eventually wear down the plastic and short circuit against the core. Gallagher has therefore introduced a reinforced insulator with extra durable plastic inside the eye of the ring where the wire is located. You can recognize this by the ring's characteristic red color.
Below you will find our selection of good and affordable insulators from different manufacturers, these are the ones we use when we assemble our own projects. As with everything else in the webshop, the material that we know from experience works.
